Chapter 2

Module 2 reminds us of the importance of online communication through email. This chapter also reviews how to create a Gmail account and some abbreviations when communicating online in a nonprofessional setting(basic things like asap, brb, and omw.) By far, the best part of the module was the refresher on the parts of an email. I remember learning what “cc” and “bcc” meant a while ago, but throughout the years, it seemed to have slipped my mind. “Cc” stands for carbon copy, but in our text, it’s referred to as courtesy copy, and “bcc” is “blind” added in the front. This sends a receipt of your email to whoever you send it, and the difference between the two is that “cc” is public to the recipient, whereas “bcc” is hidden. There aren’t many applications where “bcc” is needed, but it’s usually used for ill intent or to hide email addresses in mass messages. “Cc,” on the other hand, could be used to give someone a copy of your email to revise, or wanna show someone the conversation but they aren’t an active part of the conversation (like giving a copy to HR.) Overall knowing the etiquette for emailing is a core skill when engaging with the internet, and this chapter served as a good reminder of that.
